Touring through Scotland

Dec. 1

Today was the start to my three day tour of Scotland. There are tons of companies that do tours, but my tour was with Rabbies. We left Edinburgh and started travelling through the Lowlands. Throughout the tour the guide, gave us a history of Scotland. We past through Sterling, where we saw the Sterling Castle and the Kelpies Sculpture from a far.

We past through Dune, where the ruins of Dune Castle remain. This village, and the castle ruins are used in a number of shows and movies, such as Outlander, Game of Thrones, and Monte Python.

Next we came into the town of Calendar.

They have award winning public toilets. The award was the 2012 loo of the year. I didn't really see anything overly great about them.

Next we crossed into the Highlands, where we stopped at Loch Lubnaig.

Loch means lake in Gaelic. Gaelic is the native language of Scotland and Ireland. Although there are pronunciation and slang differences between Scotland and Ireland, similar to the differences in England between Canada and England. Gaelic is a dying language, as only about 1% of people in Ireland and Scotland speak Gaelic. But there are words in their everyday life that are Gaelic, such as Loch, and Glen, which means valley.

After leaving Loch Lubnaig, our tour guide knew where we could stop so that we could feed some wild red deer.

Soon we were in Glen Coe. Glen Coe has a negative connotation with it, because of its history. But today it is a beautiful place.

That is home to the three sisters. A set of mountains.

In Glen Coe, there is a lake called Loch Locky. There are a lot of Lochs in Scotland, and there are a number named the same thing, but I think the best name has to be Loch Locky.

We past Eilean Donan Castle, which we will be visiting later in the week. But the castle is the most photographed castle in Scotland.

We crossed over the brige to the Isle of Skye, where we are spending the night, and tomorrow.
